Meeting July 20th
Ryan Haque was sponsored by our club to attend the National Youth Science Forum earlier this year. This was the first NYSF for three years due to COVID and in contrast to previous residential events in 2023 the event was a hybrid of on-line and face to face activities in hubs around Australia.
We heard of lectures, visits to Monash and Melbourne Universities and building a robot car! A particular highlight was hearing Dr Karl Kruszelnicki. Attending NYSF reinforced Ryan’s wish to study medicine and be involved in research
During the meeting President Bob Newman presented a certificate of appreciation to Jama Farah for his leadership on the Horn of Africa project warded by District 9800.
Jama introduced Ian Thompson who has experience in producing mud bricks to provide low cost housing in Australian indigenous communities and also in the third world. Ian spoke briefly about his experience and it is hoped that one of his mobile brick presses might be sent to the Horn of Africa.
